Pray for: The Poor and The Orphaned
We see in Scripture that we are called to pray for those afflicted by the brokenness of the world we live in. In this fallen world, we witness poverty and fatherlessness. We often grieve with those who have lost loved ones. We know that God cares deeply for the orphaned and the poor. Here are ways you can pray for the poor and orphaned in our community:
Pray that those who are without would find solace and comfort in the Lord, God, who is over all. We pray that He would provide what they need and that they would know they are loved. (Psalm 82:3-4)
Pray that we would have hearts that not only love with words but also with our actions, seeking to uplift the hurting. (1 John 3:17-18)
God, we pray for those struggling to make ends meet, asking that they find provision and comfort in You. As a Father to the fatherless and a refuge to the wandering, may they experience Your peace and find refuge in Your presence.
Example Prayer
Dear God,
We come to You knowing that You are aware of every need and every hurt. You are not surprised by anything because You are over all things. You are the Creator and Sustainer of this world, and we come to You, the one who holds all power and authority, and praise Your name.
I confess that I struggle to look outside myself and see those who are hurting around me. I am quick to move past suffering because it makes me uncomfortable. God, forgive me for this and help me to see others as You see them.
I am thankful that I can point each person I encounter toward You. Though I may be able to meet a physical need, You are able to meet their greatest need. You have also given me means to love those around me with a generous spirit, and for that, I am grateful.
God, I pray that You would provide for those who are hurting and that the fatherless will come to know You as the good Father that You are. I pray for those who are struggling financially, that they would see You provide in ways that lead them to worship You.
In each situation, God, I pray that You would be known to them and that they would follow You.
In your holy name, Jesus, amen.
