Pray for: The Widow & The Unwed Mother
With the desire to love like Jesus, we want to pray for widows and unwed mothers in our community. These individuals often experience loneliness and face financial and physical needs. Throughout Scripture, we see that God deeply cares for widows and those who are often overlooked. He commands His people to care for those whom society tends to ignore. In doing so, we get to reflect God’s intentional and deep love for every individual.
Pray to praise God that He is Father to the fatherless and Protector of widows. (Psalm 68:5)
Pray for the widows and unwed mothers in our community—that they would experience the comfort of the Lord, that they and their children would be protected and have their needs met. Pray that they would come to know the Lord by experiencing His love through His people. (Psalm 10:17–18)
Pray for our church to have eyes to see the needs in our community, and to take action—to do good, seek justice, and care for the overlooked. (Isaiah 1:17)
Example Prayer
Dear God,
Your Word teaches us that You are a Father to the fatherless and a Protector of widows. Thank You that You care deeply for every person You have created and that You fully know what they are experiencing right now. Thank You that Your love, comfort, and peace surpass all understanding, even in the midst of a broken world.
Forgive us for being a forgetful people. Forgive us for our busyness, our self-focus, and for the times we fail to notice those around us who are in need. Open our eyes to see those in our immediate circles and in our broader community who need extra care and compassion. Teach us to love sacrificially—with our time, our energy, and our resources—so that those who are often overlooked may encounter Your love through us.
Teach us to "do good, seek justice, correct oppression, bring justice to the fatherless, and plead the cause of the widow," as Your Word instructs (Isaiah 1:17).
Thank You that You hear the cries of the afflicted. Thank You that You are caring for widows and unwed mothers right now in ways we cannot always see. Thank You that You will continue to protect them, provide for them, and show them Your love. And thank You for the abundant mercy You show to us.
Lord, transform us to love more like You do—to be selfless, compassionate, and attentive to those in need. Help us to remember how Jesus entered our broken world so we could tangibly see what Your love is like. Teach us to do the same as we witness sorrow and brokenness in Tampa. Use us to comfort and care for the widows and unwed mothers in our community.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
