Pray for: The Refugee

To put it simply, a refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. Refugees are one of the most vulnerable people groups and are acutely aware of their need for help. Our prayer is for safety in the midst of danger for these people. Additionally, we pray that God would shine His bright light and send eternal salvation in spite of the vast darkness and loss that refugees have endured.

  • Pray that refugees would encounter believers who will share the hope of the Gospel with them, and that they would receive salvation through Christ Jesus.

  • Pray that refugees would find protection and healing amidst the brokenness of their lives.

  • Pray that Jesus would come back soon and eliminate the presence and pain of sin!

Example Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are our Refuge in times of need. You are the strength and shelter of all who come to You. You are a strong tower; You fight off our enemies and protect us when we are weary. You are light, and in You there is no darkness whatsoever. All things happen according to Your will.

Lord, I confess that at times I have not provided a refuge or safe place for others. I confess that I am often too inwardly focused to see the circumstances of others. Father, I confess that I have taken for granted the peace I live in, and that I have not had to endure what many refugees have.

Father, I am thankful that You are sovereign over all. Even in the midst of great tragedy and heartache, You have a good and perfect plan. Father, I thank You for our eternal hope and for the promise that one day, suffering of all kinds will come to an end.

Lord God, we ask You to restore the nations from which refugees flee. Bring peace and restore order so they may return home. More than that, Father, we ask that You would provide many opportunities for missionaries and Christians to meet refugees and share the beauty of the Gospel. I ask that You would use the immense darkness in the lives of refugees to point them toward Your marvelous light. Bring peace, restore order, save many!

Thank You, Father, for the eternal hope of the Gospel. Even though wars, persecutions, and pain happen now, there will be a day when these are no more. You are sovereign over all things, and we trust You deeply.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ we pray,
Amen
